Joyeux Noel

Images of Santa Claus

While getting my store ready for Christmas ( yes, I know it's still only August ) , I've been interested to see in how many different ways Santa Claus ( or Father Christmas to this Brit ) is represented in Christmas art. There's a small selection below but I'm working on some from other countries which are fascinating.

A new Christmas card today. With kids returning to school and the change in the weather temperature, it really does seem as though Autumn's on its way. Looking out of my window, I see the first few leaves turning red.

Retro Flowers

A change of pace for me - a retro flower design !

In the Clouds

Since I last posted, we've had very hot and sticky weather, a little rain followed by more sticky weather but, today, we're in a cloud ! By that I mean that the elevation of this mountain is high enough to meet the low rain clouds. Can't actually see any neighbours so it gives a weird feeling of being the only people on the planet and is a great day to stay at home. The temperature has dropped by about 20 degrees. No complaints here though - it's just good to feel cool for a change.

Hooray !

Shenandoah Valley Augusta CountyImage via Wikipedia
Hooray - it's raining at last !

In this neck of the woods, we've had virtually no rain for days and weeks. Yesterday, we drove around farm roads on the way back from a shopping trip and it was sad to see the corn dying in the fields and the apple orchards with far less fruit than you would expect to see at this time of the year. It's going to be a tough year for Shenandoah Valley farmers. The ground is dusty and bone dry and any rain that has passed through recently has just sheered off the surface and not helped the crops at all. Now the weather map shows we have a few hours of steady rain coming our way which should help a little.

It's ironic that this rain is exactly what farmers in other areas do NOT want. They are busy dealing with flooded fields. I guess It's Mother Nature's way of keeping us all on our toes !

The weather now is ridiculously hot - a heat index of over 100F outside - so it's a good time to get working on Christmas images because the holidays will be here before we know it ! Thank goodness for air conditioning ! Today's creation uses a vintage Christmas image with an adorable little girl wearing a holly wreath and wishing us the compliments of the season. I put her on a small tote bag too because that would be a lovely way to present a special gift !

Hoyt's Midnight Bell

A new design today - I'm really enjoying working with these vintage images and researching what they represent. It's time-consuming but fun !

Cream Daisies

Beautiful cream colored daisies from a memorable bouquet. I have a great liking for the daisy family of flowers. They always look cheerful and happy and last a long time as cut flowers so we can enjoy them indoors and out.

"Bankers and Brokers" Musical Comedy 1905

Automobile Calendar for 1906

I'm fascinated by vintage posters and advertisements. They seem so elegant and artistic compared with what we see today - not better than those of today but a wholly different style and culture because times have changed so much.

This poster was created by Edward Penfield ( 1866 -1925 ) and published by Moffat, Yard & Co., New York.
It shows a woman wearing a driving coat, gloves and a hat secured by a scarf with a partial view of an automobile in the background. I love the contrasting blue and yellow of the coat and the car !
